How can we make predictions about our climate decades or centuries into the future?

To predict the future climate, science is used. Therefore, scientists use certain computer programs called climate models to understand how our planet is changing. This allows us to observe how different factors interact to affect the climate of a region.

It is important to note that weather and climate are not the same thing, and thus weather forecasts and climate forecasts also have two different approaches.
Weather is short term and long term unpredictable. Climate is the long-term average weather and is controlled by larger forces, such as the composition of the atmosphere, and is therefore more predictable on longer time scales.
